Welcome to the KETOS Q3 update. It has been a full quarter: Black & Veatch selected KETOS for its IgniteX accelerator, the United Nations’ WIPO GREEN database added our platform, Siemens gave our partnership two full podcast episodes, and two municipal utilities put their KETOS deployments on the record. This page carries the full update; each section stands alone.

Did You Know
PFAS. KETOS KELP, the KETOS Environmental Lab Platform, tests for PFAS using the EPA’s own methods (533 and 537.1) and targets results in 5 days. Did you know the federal limit for PFOA and PFOS, 4 parts per trillion, is also the lowest level a certified lab is allowed to report? Every one of the 11,284 PFOA and PFOS detections in the national UCMR5 record held in KETOS PRISM came in at or above that limit, so any reportable detection is already at the legal line.
Data centers. KELP now offers the first water testing packages built for data centers, covering cooling water, discharge, PFAS, and stormwater. Did you know that in Franklin County, Washington, data centers drew 899 million gallons of potable water in 2023, up 250 percent in four years? Our report, Water Quality Preparedness in the Age of AI, looks at what that growth means for the water going out as well as the water coming in.
Mining. KETOS monitors water for seven of the world’s top ten mining companies across gold, copper, platinum, and coal. Did you know that producing a single ton of rare earth elements generates roughly 75 cubic meters of wastewater and about a ton of radioactive residue? As the US rebuilds its domestic rare-earth supply chain, that water will need the same continuous attention.
Our Fastest ROI to Date
Our fastest breakeven on record is 11 days, at a Fortune-100 company’s rendering facility, where the power-optimization and chemical-dosage savings SHIELD unlocked through fully automated on-site data ran to 20 to 30 percent a year. In continuous mode, a SHIELD samples seven parameters every 30 seconds, more than 20,000 measurements a day.

New Mexico’s third-largest city serves more than 100,000 residents and has run its Aquifer Injection Project since 2001, returning purified, recycled water to the aquifer. Before KETOS, monitoring that water meant manual sampling: expensive, labor-intensive, and spread across teams. Today, KETOS SHIELD gives the utility real-time readings on the parameters that matter most to recycled water, heavy metals in particular, so the team can adjust its removal capacity the moment a reading drifts. The SHIELD parameter menu runs to 35, which leaves Rio Rancho room to add more as its monitoring needs change.
“The KETOS SHIELD provides access to real-time information. We can make proactive changes to our removal capacity when the water isn’t meeting our standards. With the SHIELD, we are over 99% sure we are safe.”
Utilities Director, City of Rio Rancho

Cincinnati MSD: Compliance Data That Became Pretreatment Intelligence
The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati wanted to know which industrial dischargers were putting nitrogen into its collection system, and wanted a record defensible enough to stand behind an industrial pretreatment surcharge program. MSD placed two KETOS SHIELD units at its Little Miami facility, one on raw influent and one on post-treatment effluent, monitoring 30+ parameters continuously including chlorine, pH, orthophosphate, and nitrate. Reading both points together showed effluent nitrate running higher than influent, which gave the district a continuous basis for attributing industrial nitrogen loads rather than a quarterly snapshot. Monitoring the district already ran for treatment compliance now answers a second question at a new location.

Case Study: Mining
Mining continues to be a major focus for KETOS. We now work with seven of the world’s top ten mining companies, monitoring water across gold, copper, platinum, and coal operations in Canada, the US, Peru, and New Zealand. Our newest case study follows a multinational mining and metals company that installed two SHIELD units on the pre- and post-treatment water at its platinum-group-metals mine in Montana. The result: 30+ parameters monitored continuously and more than 20 staff hours a month recovered from manual sampling. Read the full case study to see where the team put that time instead.
KELP: KETOS Environmental Lab Platform
KELP, the KETOS Environmental Lab Platform, is our lab service based in Sunnyvale, CA. It augments our automated on-site monitoring with lab testing for parameters that only need occasional checks, or that are hard to test for, like PFAS. KELP tests for dozens of parameters, targets PFAS results in 5 days instead of the industry-standard 45, and delivers digital reports in 5 to 7 business days. New this year: the first water testing packages built for data centers, covering cooling water, discharge, PFAS, and stormwater.

Partnerships
Siemens
Our partnership with Siemens, announced in January 2025, brings KETOS robotics and AI analytics into Siemens’ SIWA water applications as part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. This year, Siemens’ Digitalization Tech Talks devoted two full episodes to “The Future of Water Intelligence: From Insight to Action,” with CEO Meena Sankaran joining hosts Jonas Norinder and Don Mack to discuss what plant operators are asking for, early wins from the field, and how to start a digital water journey with the infrastructure you already have.
Black & Veatch IgniteX
We’re thrilled to share that KETOS has been selected for Black & Veatch’s 2026 IgniteX accelerator cohort. This year’s theme is Connected Intelligence Across the Infrastructure Lifecycle, and KETOS is one of five companies chosen from more than 100 applicants. Over the program, we’ll work with one of the world’s largest infrastructure firms on where continuous water intelligence fits in how infrastructure is designed, built, and operated.

Awards and Recognition
Forward Fooding FoodTech 500. KETOS is on the FoodTech 500 for a second year running, ranked #37 in Farm Management & Precision Farming on the 2025 list after placing #26 in 2024. It’s an honor to be among the companies selected from more than 1,200 applications across 85+ countries. See the listing.
WIPO GREEN. KETOS now has a profile in WIPO GREEN, the United Nations’ database of proven green technologies. To date, the KETOS platform has monitored more than 242 billion gallons of water, delivered labor efficiency gains of at least 40 percent, and recorded zero compliance violations under SHIELD monitoring.
Events

KETOS has been on the road this September. Earlier this month, Customer Support Engineer Kevin Martin represented KETOS at IMTS in Chicago, and we close out the month at WEFTEC in New Orleans (September 26 to 30). Attending WEFTEC as well? We’d love to connect.
KETOS in the News
Municipal Water Leader. The September issue features a conversation with CEO Meena Sankaran on KETOS SHIELD and on KELP, our environmental lab platform.
Water Online. Water Online has published two pieces from our Director of Data Science & AI Strategy, Ganesh Hegde. Toxic By Proximity maps PFAS risk around 133,000 US schools and finds that nearly 80 percent sit within 10 miles of a known PFAS contamination source. Myths vs. Reality separates what is true from what is assumed about data centers and water.
