Frequently Asked Questions

About KETOS

KETOS sensing techniques are proprietary and have been developed in-house and are KETOS core IP. The system has been benchmarked against NELAC-certified labs with ICP-MS as a baseline. The robotic system also directly measures samples and are not correlations (unlike typical instrumentation). The extensive R&D procedures undertaken cover for any and all false positives as well as potential interferences.

The KETOS SHIELD uses EPA-approved derived and adapted testing methodologies to detect parameters. Test procedures are fully autonomous within the system, with self-cleaning and self-calibration steps that are performed before every single test, so there’s 0% data drift.

KETOS SHIELD can autonomously monitor dozens of parameters at any frequency in real-time (including environmental factors, nutrients, and heavy metals). You can find an overview of the KETOS SHIELD offering here. KETOS WAVE can monitor essential water efficiency metrics like flow, pressure, and volume. You can find an overview of the KETOS WAVE offering here

With a combination of both solutions, operators can have a comprehensive understanding of the total water footprint as water quantity and quality are the yin and yang of water visibility and the right step toward water accountability.

KETOS is industry agnostic. Any organization that requires water quality monitoring can use KETOS.

KETOS has applications in:

Pulp and paper

Municipalities

Chemical manufacturing

Traditional agriculture

Vertical farming

Automotive

Product manufacturing

Food and beverage

The KETOS SHIELD has been benchmarked against ICP-MS as well as Atomic Adsorption systems. In general, several third-party labs around the country have validated the data based on the customer deployments for a precision of +/- 10%.

Yes. KETOS is designed to autonomously monitor water without the need for manual intervention or on-site attendance. So, it’s a solution that automates sampling, measurement, monitoring, analysis of the collected data, and reporting aspects for a complete turn-key remote solution.

Data collected and analyzed, along with alerts and early warnings, are remotely uploaded 24/7 securely so that water operators can access the latest test results from their laptop, mobile phone, or tablet.

Yes. KETOS actively tracks system health level information (to help with service-maintenance schedules, alerts such as water/power availability, connectivity online/offline, etc) and acts as the eyes of the operator and organization at all times for its fleet.

The KETOS SHIELD can provide the necessary inputs for automating the closed-loop control desired by the customer. These inputs can be available through the KETOS REST API. Currently, customers pull the data from the KETOS platform as needed through an automated mechanism with the REST API into their VT-SCADA/Ignition-SCADA systems or other 3rd party platforms.

The inputs from the KETOS platform can be integrated for automated remediation or action based on the system and the needs of the customer.

Data

The customer can control the entire frequency of testing – what/when/who.

Whoever has been designated as the organizational admin can provide role-based control access to the system. They can control how often a test is run and for which parameters. Admins have the power to align parameter testing with the needs of their internal process control or compliance requirements.

Users can download the data directly from the web platform as a .csv file to apply it to any custom homegrown models that might exist. They can also continue viewing all of the data in real-time on their mobile through the app (Android or Apple) or web browser. No software is required to be downloaded, similar to other solutions creating unnecessary conflicts with IT requirements.

KETOS has an enterprise-grade cloud management solution for all storage, hosting, processing, analysis, and data visualization. Customers have the flexibility to download/export all of their data as Excel files at any time through the KETOS Platform.

If the data is available digitally, then the integration can happen at no charge. If KETOS has to digitize the data from PDFs and Spreadsheets, there can be a custom fee based on the volume of the data.

Setup and Maintenance

KETOS SHIELD can be powered by plugging in the supplied power cable directly into a GFCI wall outlet (regular 120V socket). As a tertiary power source, integration with solar panels is an available option. In extremely remote applications where hard-wired power is unavailable, the SHIELD has also been powered completely using appropriate solar panels and battery banks to run daily tests.

The KETOS WAVE hardware is primarily self-powered by generating energy through the flow of water, with a custom turbine used for both flow measurement and power generation. An internal battery is also included as a secondary source for smart energy harvesting during intermittent flow situations. WAVE has also been powered completely using appropriate solar panels and battery banks to run daily tests.

KETOS SHIELD has ¼ inch water inlet and outlet ports. The SHIELD would be sampling from a main line that the customer wants to be testing from.

KETOS uses REST APIs.

KETOS is modular and interoperable. The hardware portion is portable enough to be placed alongside any existing setup and wherever the water enters/exits a system.

Yes. KETOS has been tested in indoor, outdoor, and in-ground scenarios. The hardware is robust and can maintain productivity even as external temperatures fluctuate.

The KETOS SHIELD functions on 4G Cellular OR Ethernet connectivity options, based on the customer’s preference. A dedicated KETOS installation technician will take care of all set-up activities and have it ready for the customer. Note that WiFi is not preferred due to bandwidth and security concerns.

In the case of cellular network connectivity, We use a widely used cellular edge device that communicates with the cloud. Therefore, unless the carrier service is down, the communication network has a similar uptime as the carrier provider (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or other preferred carriers in international countries, depending on the installation).

With security a key focus, all of the bi-directional communication is encrypted.

In a case where there’s a complete loss of cellular service in an area, then no net new test will be triggered. However, the data completed from the previous test will be available on the platform as no data is deleted or lost.

In the case of an Ethernet LAN setup, we will inherit the reliability and stability of what’s provided by the customer network.

The operator has only to log in and view the data from the mobile app or the web platform. There is no need for:

  • Calibration
  • Cleaning
  • Consumables to be purchased and handled

Security

Security is implemented at several layers of the complete integrated offering of KETOS, including:

  • Intrusion detection
  • Login authentication
  • Role-based access control
  • Encrypted bi-directional communication
  • Data encryption

These are just a few pieces implemented as part of the core solution.

No. From a security point of view, there is no data stored on the physical hardware itself.

We can push the data from the KETOS platform to a customer’s preferred platform. However, we don’t support a KETOS SHIELD device sending data directly from the edge device to a customer’s cloud/server.
